Hello, STC New England!
I’d like to take this time to welcome new and returning members for 2018. The New England chapter is the place to network, share ideas, and learn about technical communication in all six New England states, and we’re fortunate to have you as part of it.
Steve Jong, a former Chapter President, current Council member, and coordinator for the Chapter’s mentoring program, was honored as a Fellow for 2018. Steve has been part of the Society for 35 years, and he has contributed a lot to our Chapter—from coordinating our mentoring program, to editing the STC New England News website, to being there for professionals when they needed guidance in their careers. At the international level, Steve was very instrumental in creating the Society’s current Certification program, and he is part of the Community Affairs Committee, which helps Chapters and SIGs with advice and insight on operations. I congratulate Steve on this achievement; I hope he continues the great work in advocating for our profession, and giving back to our community.
I’d like to announce that InterChange is coming back this fall! It will be held on October 26 and 27, 2018 at the UMass Lowell Inn and Conference Center in Lowell, Massachusetts. This conference brings people from all over New England and beyond—from New York to California, to Canada, for example. We’ll have a call for speakers later in the spring, but right now, we need InterChange volunteers to help make it happen.
Specifically, we need volunteers for:
- InterChange Co-Coordination
- Logistics & Venue
- Materials & Collateral
- Speaker Management
If you are interested in volunteering for InterChange, please reach out to me at email@example.com. We have the opportunity to make a great conference with more than seven months of lead time, and you can help make the conference happen. Also, if you’re heading to Summit 2018 in Orlando, please reach out to me. The Chapter would like to reach out to people at the Summit to potentially come to Lowell, and you would be a great help to do that.
Finally, we’re looking for someone to host a workshop this spring. We want to work with you to help you present your knowledge and skills to others. We will also split costs evenly with you to compensate you for your time and knowledge. Please reach out to me if you or someone you know can give a workshop on a technical communication skill, or if you can give a workshop yourself.
