STC NE’s Online Consensus Judging
It was something like a homecoming, or welcoming an old friend into your home after years apart. The STC Technical Publications and Online Communications Competitions returned to the New England Chapter after an absence of five years and was embraced by our local members. The STC New England Chapter decided that five years was five years too long, and that this was the year to bring back the STC Competitions. This was exciting news to all who had bemoaned the loss of the Competition from New England.
All of the STC Council members worked together to help publicize our Regional Competition to STC members throughout the New England Chapter and also to many other STC Chapters who decided not to sponsor a Regional Competition this year. Our motto for everyone this year was “The more the merrier!”
There were a total of 20 entries distributed throughout the Technical Publications and Online Communications Competitions, and a team of six consensus judges for each of the Competitions. The judges offered valuable and useful feedback for all of the entries submitted into this year’s competition. Receiving this number of entries proved to be a great start to relaunching the Competition as well as reawakening an awareness of the Competition by the STC members in New England.
The Technical Publications Competition was held at Mathworks in Natick, MA, on October 19th and the Online Communications Competition was held at Cisco Systems in Boxborough, MA, on November 2. There were a number of Merit, Excellence, and Distinguished awards given. STC members who won an award this year were notified by the end of November/early December timeframe.
Our awards banquet is scheduled as part the March 19, 2014, STC Monthly Program at the Hilton Garden Inn, Burlington, MA. At this fun event, we’ll celebrate another great Competition, recognize and display the winning entries, and announce the winner of Best of Show. Please visit the STC New England Chapter website or this site for details as the event gets closer.
Entries winning an award of Distinguished or Excellence at our chapter-level Competition are eligible for entry into the STC’s International Summit Award (ISA) competition.
